On Line Yoga Guidelines
Preparation:
Make a clear space for your practice and use a yoga mat.
You may need a blanket and some cushions to help with sitting.Wear comfortable clothing, avoid clothes that restrict your movement.
No shoes and preferably no socks!
As much as possible, try to ensure you will not be disturbed. Switch off your phone and let people in your household know you are taking some time for your yoga practice.
Asana / Posture Work
Aim to be steady and comfortable with whatever you are doing.
There may be effort at times but avoid struggling & straining. Your breathing can guide you – if your breathing is strained then your body is strained.
Some discomfort in some of the postures may be okay but avoid pain.
If you practice with steadiness, ease and awareness you will be okay. Practicing in this way means you don’t need to worry too much about ‘getting it right’. It is the way you practice, not so much what you do that makes it yoga!
Any movements or postures that don’t suit your body, or are contraindicated for heath conditions, miss them out or do an alternative practice.
In an online Yoga class, It is most important that you take full responsibility for yourself and ensure that you stay within your physical limits.
Breathing / Pranayama
For any breathing practices, if your breathing is strained, or if you feel dizzy you should STOP and take a break.
You will make much better progress with breathing techniques if you are patient, take your time, and avoid trying too hard.
Listening is better than looking!
With my online teaching you will mostly be following verbal instructions. This can take a little bit of getting used to, but you will soon find it is a really good way to practice.
For live stream you should only need to look at the screen occasionally perhaps if there is a demonstration or if you are unsure about a particular instruction.
If you have any mental or physical health conditions, or concerns, which may have an impact on your yoga practice please let me know.
